The Beatles

BIOGRAPHY

The Beatles was a pop-rock group from England. It was formed in 1960 by John Lennon (vocals and rythm guitar), Paul McCartney (vocals and bass guitar), George Harrisson (lead guitar) and Ringo Star (drums). They are the best-selling band of all time : they have sold over one billion records.

Their music was influenced by singers like Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley or the Beach Boys, but they also found influences in other cultures, by using an Indian Sitar on several records for example.

The Beatles made thirteen albums together, created their own label, “Apple Records”, and they also made several movies. Unfortunatelly, the band stopped playing together in 1970, because of the stress and the fame. The four members of the group started a solo careers. John Lennon was assassinated in 1980. George Harrisson died of a cancer in 2001.

I have chosen to present the Beatles because they are really the most emblematic group of English pop-rock music. I like the diversity of their songs, with their rock-and-roll, hippie, or psychedelic influences. I like the rythm and the tunes of their songs, even if the lyrics are sometimes simplistic in some of them.
